Grapevine advances to 5A State Final

Grapevine 7
Whitehouse 0

Grapevine got win number 34 in its biggest game yet this season. #34 turned out in the same fashion the other 33 have for the Mustangs. Bunch of Runs and Pitching.

In what started off great for Whitehouse in the first turned into a momentum swing. After 2 wildcats reached base, James Wyche came into the picture. Wyche came up throwing to cut down Clayton Pruitt at home for the first out of the inning followed by an interference call on a double play to end the inning. Grapevine exploded for 5 runs in the bottom of the first, chased Whitehouse starter Ryan Walls, and never looked back. In the first inning after a Connor Nueman single to lead off the game, Grapevine sent 10 batters to the plate and took an early 5-0 lead.

With 5 runs Kyle Flamm never looked back. Getting comfortable as the game progressed Flamm pounded the strike zone for the complete game shutout. Flamm limited Whitehouse to 5 hits and was big in the 5th inning getting out of bases loaded 1 out jam.  The Mustang offense applied constant pressure on the Wildcat Defense which proved crucial to getting the win. The Mustangs stole 6 bases; 2 short of the 5A State Tournament Record and started 4 of the 7 innings with the leadoff man reaching base.

At the plate Connor Neuman was 2/4 and scored twice while Kyle Flamm was 3/3 with a walk. Boone Montgomery delivered as advertised from the bottom of the order going 2/3.

Whitehouse finished the year 25-12 but was attacked by the error bug in the first inning. Landry Mayo came on in relief for Walls. Whitehouse story as the 4th place team ends at Dell Diamond and will continue as they only started 1 Sr on at State Semi Finalist Team.

Grapevine awaits winner between Alamo Heights and College Station in the State Finals at 7:00 pm Friday Night.
