In his junior season, Mendoza was 10-1 with a 1.49 ERA and 77 Ks in 70 innings. At the plate, he hit .402, with 6 2Bs, 4 3Bs, 4 HRs, 22 Runs and 18 RBIs. He was named a 1st Team Pitcher on the 18-5A All-District Team. Mendoza was selected to the THSBCA 5A All-State Team as a 3rd Team Pitcher and to the TSWA 5A All-State Team as an Honorable Mention Pitcher.
As a sophomore, Mendoza was 6-2 with a 1.66 ERA and 85 Ks in 57.1 innings. At the plate, he hit .379 with 10 2Bs, 2 HRs, 25 RBIs and 20 Runs. He was named the 17-5A Pitcher MVP.
As a freshman, Mendoza was 9-2 with a 0.82 ERA and 86 Ks in 67.2 innings. At the plate, he hit .380 with 9 2Bs, 2 3Bs, 26 Runs and 21 RBIs. He was named the 17-5A Newcomer of the Year. He was selected to the TSWA 5A All-State as a Honorable Mention Pitcher.
He was selected to the All-Tournament Team at the WWBA 17U National Championship.
