3A Semifinal: Bishop 5 Edgewood 2

Bishop had been so close to getting to the state tournament many times in their team history. Now that they had made it to Round Rock, they appear poised to make a run at the state championship with their 5-2 win over the Edgewood Bulldogs.

After a scoreless inning and a half of play, it would be the Bulldogs that would jump out to the early 2-0 lead. In that inning, the patient approach by the Edgewood batters payed off, as 4 walks were issued.

Bishop starting pitcher Aaron Cardona did not have his best stuff on the mound in this one, so Noe Garza entered the game and pitched the final 5.1 innings.

Bishop would cut the lead in half the very next inning as Cardona got one of the runs back when he singled to bring in Kobrey Garcia. Both pitches would hold the other down for the next 2 innings as we entered the top of the 6th.

In the 6th, the Badgers finally got to the Bulldogs. A critical error allowed Cardona to reach to lead off the inning. After a sacrifice by Garza and walk by Nick Colecio, Bishop had runners on first and second base with 2 outs. It was a passed ball and a wild pitch that tied up the game and gave Bishop all the momentum.

The Badgers would add on another run with a clutch 2-out single by Tresten Pool. In the 7th, the Badgers would add on a pair of insurance runs as a bases loaded walk by Austin Munoz followed by a HBP by Colecio would extend the lead to 5-2.

Garza, which was named player of the game by TxHighSchoolBaseball.com, shut the door in the 7th, The junior was excellent in his relief appearance, giving up just 3 hits while giving up no runs and striking out 2 Bulldogs.
