Hallsville lefthander, Coby Weaver, has tied a National Federation of High Schools record by throwing back-to-back perfect games in his two starts prior to this past Tuesday night’s star
Weaver, the LHP/OF, threw his first perfect game on March 24th against district foe Mount Pleasant. The Bobcats defeated Mount Pleasant by a score of 15-0 behind a stellar performance from Weaver. Coby struck out 14 of the 15 batters he faced in the run rule shortened contest.
Weaver’s next start came on March 31st against Greenville. Coby struck out 13 of the 21 he faced in the 7 inning 6-0 victory. The streak came to an end on Tuesday night when Coby allowed a hit in the early innings against district bunkmate, Longview. Weaver picked off the baserunner in quick fashion and went on to face the minimum 18 in a 22-0 rout of the Lobos.
According to the NFHS record book, this feat has been accomplished only twice with the last being Anthony Valasquez in 2006 out of Bayside, New York and prior to that by Mike Bradley out of Fort Bragg, CA in 1991. This would make Weaver the first ever in NFHS history out of Texas to accomplish such a lofty goal.
Weaver has been a valuable piece of the Hallsville pitching staff that has been extremely pitcher wealthy over the last 4+ years, sporting names like Ronnie Gideon (2013 – TAMU) and Connor Reich (2014 – TCU). Coby is a Dallas Baptist commit. The Bobcats made the State Tournament last season, getting knocked out in the Semifinals by eventual State Champion Aledo. Hallsville currently sits in the #6 spot in the THSB Top 25.
