HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL

As a junior, Schley hit .470 with 9 2B, 5 3B, 2 HR, 28 RBI, 30 Runs, 19 BB and 9 SB. On the mound he was 7-0 with 78 Ks in 51.1 Innings and a 1.36 ERA. He was named the 29-1A MVP. He was selected to the THSBCA 1A All-State Team and to the TSWA 1A All-State Team as 2nd Team Pitcher. He was also named as the THSCA 1A Super Elite MVP.

In his sophomore season, Schley hit .357 with 3 2B, 5 3B, 1 HR, 23 RBI, 35 Runs, 27 BB, 20 SB, a .581 OBP and a .643 SLG. On the mound he was 9-3 with 86 K in 58 IP and a 1.81 ERA and a 1.103 WHIP. He was named the 26-1A MVP. He was selected to the TSWA 1A All-State Team as a 2nd Team Pitcher.

As a freshman, Schley hit .295 with 2 2B, 2 3B, 1 HR, 21 RBI, 22 Runs and 8 SB. On the mound he was 5-2 with 45 K in 30.2 Innings with a 3.88 ERA. He was named the 26-2A Newcomer of the Year.

INTERVIEW

Fayetteville were State Champions last year. What was that like?

We knew we were the better team if we played to our abilities. We wanted it because the two seasons before we lost in the state championship. So we worked hard last year to get the final win. The feeling of finally winning the championship was surreal. I have dreaming about this since I was a little kid. It was a dream come true. At the moment it didn’t seem real. But as time has passed, it continues to be a great feeling.

You were the starting pitcher for that game. How did you approach that game mentally?

I just had to go out there and pitch to the best of my ability. Tried to just say in the zone. I knew they couldn’t hit me if I did that. I didn’t throw my best game but I did what needed to be done to win.

What do you think about this year’s team?

We lost 6 starters from last year and that really hurts. But we have some good players coming back . We had some on the bench who could have helped us out. We will work hard this year and hopefully we can come back and go far again.

What do you like about this year’s team?

All of us work hard. All of us want it this year. I know that we will put in the work we need to win.

How do you see your role on this year’s team?

I’ve always been one of the leaders on this team. I need to step up and lead the younger boys. I think the team relies on me so I need to go out there with a positive attitude. Show the younger guys how it is done and get the win.

You are a multi-sport guy. What all does that include?

I do football. We have gone 3-4 rounds deep in the playoffs the last several years. I play basketball. We went to the state semifinals two years ago. In track, I went to state in the triple jump and long jump. And then in baseball, we have been to the state championship game 3 years in a row, winning it all last year.
