4A GameGrade Team of the Week
Pittsburg Pirates – The Pirates took down some quality teams to earn a perfect 5-0 record this week. They got things started with a win over Gilmer, who went four rounds deep in last year’s postseason, on Tuesday before heading to the Pitt/MP 271 Shootout. At that tournament, Pittsburg defeated the reigning Arkansas 4A state champion, a 6A and two 5A programs. The Pirates are now 7-2-1on the season.
Runner-Up
Argyle Eagles – Argyle jumped to No. 1 in our first Top 25 poll last week and played like the top team in week three. The Eagles went 5-0 and earned shutouts in four of those games to improve to 12-0 on the season. They outscored opponents 44-3 and have only given up 17 runs this year.
Honorable Mention
Raymondville Bearkats – The Bearkats went 3-0 this week, opening up their district season with a win on Tuesday and fighting back from an early five-run deficit to win in walk-off fashion against their rival on Friday night. Raymondville (8-3) currently boasts a seven-game win streak and looks to continue its turnaround from a four-win season last year.
