What was billed as a pitching duel lived up to the hype and then some. Scoreless through 5, both Mason Englert and Jo Jo Villareal mowed down batters with maximum efficiency. Villareal only faced 17 Forney hitters through 5, while Englert faced 19. Both pitchers gave up hard hit balls, but worked brilliantly to recover with baserunners on.
In the Forney half of the 6th, the Jackrabbits managed to link a hit, intentional walk and a double that squirted past the left fielder to generate their 3 runs, which was more than enough of a comfort zone for Englert.
In the end, Forney did what Forney does, or should I say, Englert continued his magic. After being drafted by the Rangers in the 4th round on Tuesday, Mason was brilliant. He worked the zone away from hitters and forced them to chase. The 5A strikeout leader was dominant in his perfomance and earned the THSB Player of the Game.
