JD Thompson is a 6-0 185 LHP/OF for the 17-4A Rusk Eagles. He has committed to Vanderbilt University.

As a junior, Thompson was 13-1 with a 0.35 ERA and 194 Strikeouts in 99.2 innings. His 194 Ks led all Texas High School Baseball players and he struck out 20 batters in a game on March 30. At the plate, Thompson hit .355 with 10 2Bs, 5 3Bs, 2 HRs, 24 RBIs and 24 Runs. He was named the THSB 4A Pitcher of the Week on April 7. Thompson was selected as the All-East Texas Baseball Pitcher of the Year and was named to the Texas Sports Writers Association 4A All-State Team as a 1st Team Pitcher.

In his sophomore season during covid shortened season, Thompson was 2-2 with a 3.44 ERA and 29 Strikeouts in 20.1 innings. At the plate, he hit .400 with 2 2Bs and 2 3Bs and 7 RBIs.

As a freshman, Thompson was 8-2 with an 0.52 ERA and 98 Strikeouts in 66.2 innings. He was named the All East-Texas Newcomer of the Year.
