Brenham Gets 1,500th Career Baseball Win

Brenham’s 6-1 win over Huntsville on Friday, March 31 was one of historical significance in the history of Texas High School Baseball. That was the 1500th win in the school’s history. Brenham is thought to be the first high school team in Texas to reach that milestone, a claim that no one has been able to dispute.

The Brenham Cubs have a rich baseball tradition in Texas and have proclaimed themselves as the Baseball Capital of Texas. Fireman’s Park was built in 1884 and, with several renovations over the years, still serves as the home field for the Brenham Cubs. The town also hosts the Texas High School Baseball Hall of Fame.

Brenham has made 55 appearances in the high school baseball playoffs. The have made a Texas record 16 State Tournament appearances. They have won 7 State Championships, tied with South San Antonio and Bellaire for the most State Championships. The Cubs have had 37 players drafted by Major League Baseball since 1967 and countless Cub players have played in colleges and universities across the country. Some of these players are displayed in the Hall of Fame Museum including the May 8, 1989 Sports Illustrated Issue with Brenham pitcher Jon Peters on the cover after pitching a national record 51 consecutive wins. Peters was the first high school baseball player to ever grace the cover of Sports Illustrated and still remains only one of two high school players to make the cover.

The 2017 Cubs are off to a great year, currently leading 20-5A with a 9-1 record, compiling a 16-6-1 record overall. They were ranked #17 in the latest 5A Texas High School Baseball Poll.

THSB congratulates the Brenham Cubs on their historic accomplishment!
