Brody and the Hawks Battle Perthes Disease

On baseball diamonds across the globe, young ball players dream of being Major Leaguers. In small town America, young ball players dream of being Tigers, Lions, Cats and Pirates. In one small town, a little boy named Brody dreams of being a Hawk. A Hawkins Hawk to be exact. Brody has always been an incredibly active little boy, he enjoyed playing football, basketball, and baseball. However, something changed in October of 2015. His parents, noticed Brody had started limping and saying his hip hurt. Off to the doctor they went. Brody had x-rays done. Mom and Dad were told all looked normal.  However, Brody continued limping on and off for the next 7 months but continued to play the sport in season – football, basketball and baseball. Brody was doing what he loved to do even though it was causing pain. On April 26, 2016, Brody went to an orthopedic doctor because again he was limping and this time he was complaining of pain in his knee. She asked several questions and did some leg work and the next thing the family knew the doctor was requesting x-rays on his right hip.

The doctor requested another doctor be present to watch the leg work and review the x-rays because she may not ever see this this type of case again. The doctor then proceeded to tell Brody’s parents that Brody had Legg Calve Perthes Disease. Brody was referred to Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital in Dallas where the condition was confirmed.

Enter the Hawks Baseball Team – who were in the middle of preparing for the playoffs. The Hawk Baseball Boys gave him a baseball signed by each player and coach and a card. Mom, Kaci Warren stated “Brody looks up to these young men a lot and what they did was incredibly special!! Hopefully in a few years Brody will get another chance at being a normal little boy and will be back up running around the baseball field and wreaking havoc and for that we are grateful! As for now we will roll our sleeve’s up and help Brody in his Battle with Perthes Disease!”

Brody – all of Texas High School Baseball will roll up their sleeves and help you with your battle! Prayers go out to you as you tackle this condition. We all know you will be on the field in no time and one day, help the Hawks make another run through the playoffs.
