Dallas Jesuit SS Jordan Lawlar Named Gatorade Texas Player of the Year

Dallas Jesuit Sr SS Jordan Lawlar was named the 2021 Gatorade Player of the Year. Lawlar is the third Gatorade Texas Baseball Player of the Year to be chosen from Dallas Jesuit (Kyle Muller, 2017 and Josh Bell, 2011).

The award, which recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field, distinguishes Lawlar as Texas’ best high school baseball player.

The 6-foot-2, 195-pound senior shortstop posted a .412 batting average with six home runs, 46 runs scored, 37 RBI and a . 556 on-base percentage this past season, leading the Rangers to a 32-6 record and a berth in the Class 6A area playoffs. The nation’s No. 1 draft prospect as ranked by Perfect Game, Lawlar also stole 32 bases without being caught and walked 27 times this season.

Lawlar joins recent Gatorade Texas Baseball Players of the Year Jared Kelley (2019-20, Refugio High School), Bobby Witt Jr. (2018-19, Colleyville Heritage High School), Brett Baty (2017-18, Lake Travis High School), and Alex Scherff (2016-17, Colleyville Heritage High School), among the state’s list of former award winners.
