Dallas Jesuit’s Kyle Muller Named National Gatorade Player of the Year

Dallas Jesuit LHP/OF Kyle Muller was named Gatorade National Player of the Year Monday morning in a surprise presentation at the Dallas Jesuit High School.  Making the presentation of the award was Texas Rangers Pitcher and 2008 World Series MVP Cole Hamels.

The 6-foot-7, 245-pound Muller has led the Rangers to a 34-8-2 record and a berth in the 6A State Tournament, scheduled for June 9. He has posted an 8-1 record on the mound with a 0.46 ERA and 133 strikeouts in 76 innings. Offensively, he’s compiled a .405 average with 15 home runs and 53 RBI through 44 games. A 2015 Under Armour All-American, he set a national high school record by striking out 33 consecutive hitters over two games earlier this season.

The presentation was a complete surprise to Muller who had been out helping with the Jesuit Baseball Camp.  “I had no clue,” Muller stated, “I had just finished working with a little kid baseball camp outside and then we go inside and I thought this was just a kind of send-off.  Then I saw him (Hamels) walking down the stairs with the trophy and my heart just dropped.  I was so excited I didn’t know what to say.”

Just 2 weeks earlier, Muller was named the Gatorade Texas Player of the Year.  Muller has signed to play baseball at the University of Texas but some predict he will go either late in the 1^st Round or early in the 2^nd round in the upcoming MLB draft on June 9-11.
