Kayson Cunningham is a 5-9, 170 Senior Shortstop for the 27-6A San Antonio Johnson Jaguars. He has committed to the University of Texas but is expected to be drafted in the first round of the MLB draft next summer.
High School Career
As a junior, Cunningham hit .442 with 12 2Bs, 8 3Bs, 4 HRs, 38 RBIs, 52 Runs, 36 SB, a .557 OBP and a .732 SLG. He led all 6A players with 61 hits and was tied for 1st with 8 triples. He was 2nd with 52 runs and tied for 6th with 36 stolen bases. Cunningham was a 28-6A 1st Team All-District SS, the San Antonio Express News Player of the Year, a THSBCA 1st Team All-State SS, a TSWA 1st Team All-State SS, a THSB 1st Team All-Texas SS and a Max Preps 1st Team Underclass All-American SS.
In his sophomore season, Cunningham hit .392 with 15 2Bs, 5 3Bs, 1 HR, 41 RBIs, 50 Runs, 34 SBs, a .546 OBP and a .625 SLG. He was 2nd among all 6A players in runs scored, tied for 2nd in stolen bases and tied for 6th in doubles. He was named to the 28-6A All-District Team as a 1st Team 2B, the THSBCA All-State Team as a 1st Team 2B and to the TSWA All-State Team as an Honorable Mention 2B.
As a freshman, Cunningham hit .461 with 4 2Bs. 1 3B, 21 RBIs, 23 Runs, 23 SBs, a .558 OBP and a .539 SLG. He was named the 28-6A Newcomer of the Year.
