By his own admission Kyle Muller didn’t have his best stuff but it was more than enough to give the Dallas Jesuit Rangers a 2-0 win over Langham Creek in the first 6A State Semifinal game. Muller pitched a complete game shut out giving up only 3 hits while striking out 9 on 4 walks.
“I didn’t have my best stuff out there today,” Muller commented, “but I just kept working at it, knowing my teammates would pick me up.”
While Muller was holding Langham Creek scoreless, Jesuit was having a hard time of their own trying to pick up some runs. They were held scoreless until the 4th inning when Will Guzman’s single scored courtesy runner McCoy Lopez from second base. Jared Bond advanced to third base on the throw to home and scored later on a sacrifice by Matt Horvath to give Jesuit their only runs of the game.
Coach Jones concurred with Muller about his pitching performance. “It definitely wasn’t won of his better outings but that is the thing about the type of pitcher and competitor and Kyle is. The outings that are not his best are still better than 99% of the pitchers.”
For Muller who was recently named National Player of the Year and was drafted in the 2nd Round by the Atlanta Braves, his last outing on the mound was a great ending to a great year. “This was a great ending to my high school pitching career. Getting a shutout, finishing the game with a 3 pitch strikeout. I couldn’t ask for a better ending.”
With the win, Dallas Jesuit advances to the State Championship Game on Saturday and will meet the winner of the San Antonio Johnson/Amarillo game.
