Player Profile: Russell Smith, LHP, Midlothian

Russell Smith is a 6-9, 220 LHP who will be a Senior at 6A Midlothian. Smith has committed to TCU. As a Junior, he went 8-2 with a 1.35 ERA and had 84 Ks. As a Sophomore, he was 8-0 with an 0.36 ERA and had 60 K’s. He was named 8-6A Pitcher of the Year both his Sophomore and Junior years.

Smith was chosen to play for the Texas Rangers Area Code team this summer, picking up one win in the Area Code Games, striking out 8 batters over 4 innings while only giving up 3 hits. He was named as the Outstanding Pitcher for the Area Code games. He also pitched for the Dallas Tigers in summer league ball.

Smith consistently throws in the upper 80’s but did hit 96 MPH in the Area Code Games.
