Rusk has been living on the edge for the last month as Head Coach Ross McMurry and the Eagles have played 3 one-game playoffs coming into the state tournament. And why not? When you have Vanderbilt commit, JD Thompson, that’s the smart move. Facing the #1 team in the state, Thompson got off to a rocky start as he gave up 2 runs and 2 extra base hits in the 1st inning. Thompson would settle down and finish with 6 strikeouts and only gave up 1 more run in the contest. The story in this state semifinal was the Rusk offense. The Eagles got contributions from everyone in their lineup. All 9 hitters reached base safely at least once as they scored 6 runs on 9 hits, 3 walks, and 4 hit batters. Zach Blackmon was chosen as the MVP as the senior DH went 2-4, with 1 run and an RBI.
