Kyle Warden has been asked to step up all season long and he did it once again in the biggest of venues to help Southlake Carroll defeat San Antonio Reagan 7-2 in the 6A State Championship Game.

Warden was asked to be the #2 starter when preseason #1 pitcher Cutter Sippel went down with an arm injury. He has teamed with starting pitcher Nicco Cole to lead Southlake Carroll to a 35-6 season record and a 6A State Championship.

Carroll built a lead early scoring 2 runs in the first inning on a Will Quillen 2 RBI triple. In the second inning, Southlake Carroll increased their lead to 4-0 on a Cade Bell RBI double who later scored on a Reagan error, one of 4 errors committed by the Reagan team.

Carroll scored two more in the 4th on a Cade Johnson Sac Fly and a Jorge Figueroa bases loaded walk. Carroll pushed their lead to 7-0 in the 5th courtesy runner Jaxon Osterberg scored on error in the outfield.

Meanwhile, Warden took care of business and kept Reagan from scoring in the first six innings. “I was able to keep the ball down and keep them off balance for most of the game,” Warden explained. “And I had the good defense behind me to get it done. They have been solid all year.” Carroll was errorless in the game.

Reagan did score 2 runs in the bottom of the 7th and Adam Stephenson came in to finish the game.

For Southlake Carroll, this was their first State Championship since 2002 and their first state championship as part of the largest classification.

For Reagan, it was their 2nd straight loss in the State Championship and was not the game they were wanting. Many of the Reagan players talked Friday evening about not being satisfied with just making the title game but things did not go their way on Saturday.

Kyle Warden was named the Championship Game MVP.
