In his junior season for the 4A Rusk Eagles, Townsend hit .432 with a .532 OBP, 9 2Bs, 3 3Bs, 2 HRs, 22 Runs, 22 RBIs and 12 SBs. He was named to the 16-4A All-District Teams as a 1st Team Utility Player.

As a sophomore at 4A Carthage, Townsend hit .379 with a .478 OBP, 5 2Bs, 2 3Bs, 10 RBIs, 30 Runs and 20 SBs. He was named a 1st Team OF on the 19-4A All-District Team.

As a freshman at Carthage, Townsend hit .394 with 9 2Bs, 3 3Bs, 10 RBIs, 28 Runs and 15 SBs. He was the 19-4A Newcomer of the Year and was also named the Newcomer of the Year on the East Texas Baseball Super Team. He was selected to the TSWA 4A All-State Team as an Honorable Mention 3B.

Townsend was named to the All-Tournament Team at the 2015 15U National Championship.
