Tomball senior, Robert Dugger, was named the 4A Tournament MVP
The Tomball Cougars continued their march in to the baseball record books tonight, winning the 4A State Title over a hungry and talented Corpus Christi Moody by a final score of 6-1. The Cougars did so behind a flawless performance both on the mound and at the plate by senior Robert Dugger (7-2). Dugger allowed only one run on six hits and went 3 for 4 at the plate with 5 RBI’s, including a 3 RBI in-the-park homerun in the 1st inning. Dugger added a RBI single in the 5th and an RBI double in the 6th, leading to Dugger being named the 4A Tournament MVP. Other notables for Tomball included a 3 for 4 night by senior Nicholas Banks as well as a 2 for 3 performance by senior shortstop Anthony Lucas. Banks had 2 singles and double on the night while Lucas had a pair of singles. Tomball beat the previously unbeaten Michael Cantu (12-1)by tallying 6 runs on 12 hits on a night that Cantu didn’t have his best stuff. Overall, the Tomball bats were way too much for Moody to handle; and Dugger’s propensity to get the Trojans to keep the ball on the ground (12 outs on ground balls), proved more than what Moody could counter.
