The Friday night game between Vista Ridge and Seguin was a run fest, but the 2nd game of the series was just the opposite. Vista Ridge’s Justin Traxler and Seguin’s Andrew Kuehne held both teams at bay through regulation play, battling to a 0-0 tie after 7 innings.
In the top of the 8th Traxler retired all 3 Seguin batters to set up the heroic ending. Vista Ridge’s Kragen Kechely reached base on an infield single to start the inning. Hicks then walked moving courtesy runner Sopchak to second base. That brought up Zach Walsh who drove the first pitch to deep center field for a double, scoring Sopchak and giving Vista Ridge the victory and a series win.
But it was Traxler who shut down Seguin until Vista Ridge could get a run. In 8 innings, Traxler gave up only 1 hit and 1 BB while striking out 8.
Vista Ridge moves on to face Schertz Clemens in the Quarterfinals in a 3 game series.
