USA Baseball 18U Team Holds On To Beat Panama 9-8 in Super Round Opener

After falling behind early, Team USA took a 9-5 lead after 5 and then held on for a 9-8 victory to open the Super Round play of the COPABE U-18 Pan-American Championships on Wednesday at Rico Cedeno Stadium in Chitre, Panama.

Bobby Witt Jr and Drew Romo each had 2 RBIS in the game. Witt Jr was 1-4 with a double and a run scored and got on base by a hit by pitch. Romo was also 1-4 with an RBI Single and an RBI on a bases loaded hit by pitch.

Refugio Jr Jared Kelly started the game for Team USA. He held the Panama team scoreless in the 1st with 2 strikeouts but then struggled to get an out in the 2nd. Kentucky Pitcher Ryan Hawks came in to relieve to pick up the win.

The United States (5-0) will continue the Super Round of the COPABE U-18 Pan-American Championships against Canada (4-1) today, November 29. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. ET.
