Weatherford Christian Routs Hallettsville Sacred Heart to Capture 2nd Consecutive D5 State Title

Expectations were high for Weatherford Christian in 2021 after winning the Division V State Championship in 2019 with a young team. The Lions answered those expectations with a 2nd consecutive State Championship as they beat Hallettsville Sacred Heart in a 14-2 route.

“We have definitely felt the pressure this year,” Head Coach Clegg Smith confirmed. “I have felt the pressure. The kids have felt the pressure. Everyone wanted to beat us. It felt like anything short of making it to the state title game would be a disappointment. But our kids responded well and met the challenge.”

Weatherford Christian quickly made it a one-sided game. They scored 3 runs in the first inning, 6 runs in the second, and 4 runs in the third. And freshman Rand Green held Sacred Heart scoreless for three innings giving up only one hit with 5 K’s. Green was the winning pitcher giving up 3 hits and 2 runs in 4.1 innings. He was also 2-2 at the plate with a double and 3 RBIs. For his performance Green was named the THSB Championship Game MVP.
