On June 6, 1973, the La Grange Leopards won their first state championship in baseball; 40 years later La Grange defeated the defending state champion Pleasant Grove Hawks 10-2 to take home the 2013 3A State Championship (4th in school history). The Leopards’ head coach, Brad Harbers, will go out a champion as he is retiring from baseball and going to work in administration for La Grange.
The Leopards were led by senior pitcher Logan Vinklarek who went 2-2 at the plate with 1 RBI and one run scored; Vinklarek also went the distance on the mound to pick up his ninth win of the season: 7 IP, 5 hits, 2 earned runs, 3 walks, 1 K on 95 pitches. Shortstop Tanner Fritsch also had a great game at the plate going 3-4 with 2 RBI’s and one run scored.
