Interview
You guys made it to the state tournament last year but lost in the state semifinals in one of the top games of the state tournament. Talk about that game.

Oh man it was an awesome game. It was just the competitiveness, the going back and forth, and then going into extra innings. I got that base hit in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game. Then they scored that one run in the top of the 8th. I knew we had a chance coming back but we couldn’t execute it and get that run across. But overall, I loved the energy in that game. And I know people were talking about that game the next day at Dell Diamond.

When did you guys know you had a team that could make it to the state tournament?

Well, from the beginning of the season we had a lot of doubts, just because we had lost six starters that past year, and we had a lot of guys that had to step up. And that ended up happening. We had a lot of guys step up and learn how to play their part real good. And it was probably the middle and the end of district when I started seeing we’d be real good.

This year you guys bring back a good core group. So how are you feeling about the 2025 Flatonia team?

This year I’m going to have the same mindset as we had last year. Like just do our best, play our part, and then see how far we can make it.

Where will this team be really good this year?

I think we will be really good defense wise. We have been looking real good in practice, even some of our non starter guys looked real good in practice. And then with Coach Bruns and Coach Migl and Coach Mica, they do a lot of defensive reps. So I think that’ll be our best area of the game.

What do you think might be the challenges for you guys this year?

Our challenge will definitely be Ganado. They will be real good again because I think they only lost one senior. They put up a good challenge with us last year so I think there’ll be a really tough opponent. Shiner will be real good too. As long as we can hit the ball, we’ll be pretty decent.

What’s your favorite thing about this year’s team?

I feel like we have a lot of guys from last year and we all jelled really good. So I feel like that’ll carry over into this year and we’ll all be together as one, almost like a family.

Why Texas State?

The coaching staff was amazing. I feel like I connected with them really well. And then I feel like that’ll be the place for me to go and grow and get experience and get better. It just felt like it’s the right place for me.
