3A Semifinal: West 8 Littlefield 3

This semifinal contest had a back-and-forth vibe to it in the early going. It was Littlefield that would start hot, with 1 run in the 2nd and 2 runs in the third to build a 3-0 lead. In the 2nd inning it was an RBI single by Seth Clayton, scoring Reese Rogers, that would give the Wildcats the first run of the ballgame. In the 3rd, Herrera would score on a fielder’s choice while Calaway would cross the plate right behind him on an errant throw on the play.

West responded with 3 of their own in the bottom half of the 3rd to tie up the game. After Koch walked and Shilling was hit by a pitch, the inning was setup for the top of the order. Gonzalez then proceeded to double to left field, bringing in Koch and Shilling. Macik tied up the contest with a sacrifice fly.

The Trojans did not take their foot off the pedal, as in the 5th, 4 more runs crossed the plate. Gonzalez singled to left field to open up the frame. Paxton then tripled to the right field wall, scoring Gonzalez all the way from first base. Later in the inning, catcher Dalton Wiethorn hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Paxton. The hit parade did not stop there as Bing singled to center field to bring in Zacharias and Simmons.

Heading to the 6th inning, the Trojans had built a 7-3 lead. At this point Horn had settled in nicely on the mound, and finished out the contest with 4 scoreless innings in a row. West would add on one final insurance run in the bottom of the 6th as Rozyskie singled to bring in Paxton.

Tristan Gonzalez was named the TxHighSchoolBaseball.com player of the game for his performance. The junior was 2-4 from the plate with a double, 2 runs, and 2 RBI’s.
