Interview
You had the game winning hit in the state championship game. I remember it was crazy afterwards. As you reflect on that 6 months later, what are your thoughts about that today.

It’s still crazy to think about that. I have people come up to me and ask me about it often.  And it’s still pretty unreal. It was a big moment. Very exciting. But it was a team win.

And I remember you telling me that you were wanting that opportunity to hit.

(Laughing) Yes. I remember hoping I would get a shot when I was on deck. There was two outs, and I just wanted to be the guy at the plate that inning just to have a chance to do it. And I was confident once I stepped in the box. I remember that.

So you guys lost several big pitchers and graduated a few other players. What do you think is going to be the challenges for Grapevine in 2025

Honestly, I think we have guys to go do it again. I think it’s just going to be ‘can we perform and be consistent like we were last year.’ We had a lot of tough spots in games last year that we just battled through and ended up on top. And I think we have the guys to do it again. We just have to be able to fight through the hard situations.

So what do you like about this team? What are those things that you think could get you back to the state tournament?

I like how close we already are. A lot of the guys that are back, we already have kind of bonded over the tough games from last year. The long season from last year. And everybody kind of has their own ego in a way that they think they should go be the best player they can be. And I think that’s a good thing.

Why Odessa College?

I like the coach a lot. One of my high school coaches knows the coach at Odessa, and they’re real close. And they both have great things to say about each other. And one of the players that graduated from Grapevine two years ago is at Odessa College right now. And he loves it there. And it just felt like home when I visited.  So I’m excited about going there to play baseball.
