INTERVIEW

When did you realize you had a legitimate future in baseball?

It was my freshman year. I grew a lot that year. I shot up to 6’2” and I was about 220 pounds. When I was hitting BP, I was hitting the baseball very far. Then I started getting a lot of college coaches coming in and it became a reality at that point.

What do you like about this year’s Corsicana team?

We are older. The best part of our team is that we have many who have been there, done that. We should have that experience that other teams might not have so that should be our biggest advantage.

What are the challenges of this year’s team?

I would say staying focused on the goals, remembering what we want to do and not getting sidetracked. We need to keep doing things as a team and not one person here, one person there. We need to be connected as a team.

How do you see your role on this year’s team as a senior?

I think I am more of a support role on this team. Just trying to help everyone else. I’m likely going to get walked many times. I won’t get pitched to much, so I need everyone around me to be successful if we are going to be successful. I need to make the plays I need to make and hit the balls when I’m pitched to. So, I want to support everyone else on the team and hopefully make them better.

What do you hope coaches, teammates and fans remember about Easton Autrey?

I want them to remember that I was hard working, loyal and determined. Those are the three things I hope people would say about me.

Talk about winning the Area Code Home Run Derby competition.

It was great. It was a good time. My friends were around me and we were just out there having a good time. I got really hot there and got on a streak and ended up winning. It was a really great time.

Why UT?

Originally, I was committed to Texas A&M but many of the coaches moved to UT. So I just followed them. Especially because of Tulo (Troy Tulowitski). It was an easy decision for me. Tulo is intense and hardworking, and he has a lot of information to share because he has been there! He is involved with the players and everything they do, making sure they do what they need to do to become a good ballplayer.

Who are the people who have been a big influence on your baseball journey?

I’ve always been dedicated to the sport. But the people who have helped me the most are my grandparents, my dad and my brother. My brother Hunter is a player at Sam Houston State and he has helped me. My grandad has given me the motivation. And then my dad has coached me and talked me through everything.
