Fayetteville versus Gail Borden County

With the sun starting to peak out from behind the clouds and the wind blowing from right field to left field, game 2 would get underway.  The battery for Fayetteville would be Payton Hemmitt (5-2) with Damon Gerik behind the disk.  Borden County would start Hunter Jones (7-2) with Kale Yabro behind the plate.

Borden County’s Hunter Jones promptly struck out the first two batters, but 3 errors would allow Fayetteville to score the first run.  Payton Hemmitt would match the strikeouts with 2 of his own in the bottom of the frame.  The first inning would end with a fly out to left field.   The top of 2 was a little more exciting as Fayetteville would capitalize on a walk, a couple of hits and a sacrifice fly by Damon Gerik to jump out to a 4-0 lead.  Borden County answered with two hits to start the bottom of the inning.  A sacrifice fly and a wild pitch later and the second would end with score 4-2.

Fayetteville recorded its first scoreless frame in the top of the 3rd when Hunter Jones picked off Lane Fritsch to end the inning.  Borden County would also go down scoreless in the 3rd despite getting the leadoff batter on.  Fayetteville would put runners on the corners with 2 outs after an error.  Damon Gerik would be up and would punish the baseball for a triple clearing the bases.  Braden Rohde added a hit and an RBI forcing a pitching change.  Trace Richey would come to the mound for Borden County down 7-2 with 2 outs.  A fly ball to centerfield later and the top of the 4th inning was over.  Borden County got one back in their half of the fourth when Steven Carrillo knocked in Braxton Coor.  At the end of the fourth it was 7-3 Fayetteville.

The fifth and sixth were quit for both teams with only 1 runner getting on base for both teams.  Fayetteville added 1 run in the top of the 7th due to a couple of errors.  Borden County was no match for relief pitcher Damon Gerik who sat them down in order in the bottom of the 7th.
