1A State Semi-Final Game 2 – D’Hanis defeats Dodd City

 admin  |    Jun 5th, 2019

D’Hanis would bring arguably the best 1A arm to the mound in Alex Magers (Texas A&M) for this Semi-Final match up versus Dodd City.  Leadoff batter, Brayden Vaught, A sophmore, was not phased as he led the game off with a single.  Magers would get two quick outs before hitting Aaron Munger in the helmet forcing a stoppage in the game.  Munger would be removed from the game due to his injory.  D’Hanis would capitalize on a hit by pitch and error and a single to score two in their half of the first.

Alex Magers would hit the leadoff man but get a ground ball and two strikeouts to sit Dodd City down quietly in the top of the 2nd.  Despite two singles to lead off the bottom of the second, D’Hanis could not do anything with them as Dodd City’s Dillon Jones would get an out by a sac bunt and a great catch by Alec Simpson in Center Field to save at least one run.

In the third, Dodd City’s Zayne Kennon would reach on with two outs but a base running miscue got him tagged out at 3rd. Dillon Jones would sit down the first three batters for D’Hanis thanks to a base running miscue by D’Hanis.  Alex Magers would return the favor in the top of the 4th with 3 strikeouts.  With one out in the bottom of the 4th, Kyle Looper would smoke a ball down the right field line for a stand up triple.  Ethan Reyes would drive him in but be out at first.  A walk, a single and a lazy fly ball to centerfield would end the inning with D’Hanis up 3-0.

The top of the fifth would begin with the third hit batter by D’Hanis Alex Magers.  But a strikeout, a single by Brayden Vaught, a strikeout and a popout behind second base would end the threat.  Dodd City couldn’t move the leadoff runner past second.  In the bottom of the 5th, D’Hanis would make the most of some Dodd City errors.  After Alex Magers led off with a double and Jacob Hutto singled, they would score after two errors and a passed ball.  A wild pitch would score Jaeden VanDamme who had reached on an error by the shortstop.  Kyle Lopper would walk and that would end the day for Dillon Jones.  An error, a single and a walk loaded the bases for Josh Rivera.  Landon Allen would get him to strikeout, bringing up Alex Magers.  He would drive one to the 375 mark, scoring 3 to end the game.
