2023 5A State Semi Final Boerne Champion v Argyle

 admin  |    Jun 9th, 2023

The nightcap would feature Boerne Champion versus Argyle.  Aiden Smith was on the bump for Boerne Champion with Gage Goldberg catching.  Park Prater and Hunter Sandifer were the battery for Argyle.  Boerne would get on the board in the top of the first.  Jordan Ballin walked, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt, stole third and advanced to home on a error by the catching on the throw.   Argyle’s Colton Roguemore matched the leadoff walk.  With 1 out, he was gunned down by Gage Goldberg trying to steal second.

Grant Kinzel started the top of the second with a single up the middle.  Quinn Grable walked.  A double by Gage Goldberg scored Kinzel from second.  Argyle went done in order bottom of the second.  Two walks in the third forced an Argyle pitching change.   Reid Ross came in to pitch with a runner on first.  A groundout and a strikeout later and Argyle are back in the dugout.  Argyle generated a little traffic in the bottom of the third, but Smith was able to pitch around it.  At the end of the third it was 2-0 Boerne Champion.

Argyle would have 3 hits in the bottom of the fourth.  Unfortunately for Boerne Champion pitchers it was batters not balls.  Combined with two walks, means that Argyle score 2 runs in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at 2-2.  Boerne Champion would go down in order in the top of the 5th.  Grady Emerson would lead off with a walk.  Alex D’Angelo recorded the first hit of the game for Argyle.  Park Prater hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Emerson.  A single later and Boerne Champion would change pitchers again.  Rowdy Miller game in to pitch.  Miller would balk to score a run before getting a fly out to end the inning.  It was 4-2 Argyle at the end of the 5th.

A leadoff walk by Sam Miller was negated after a fly out to left.  The next batter, Quinn Grable lined one to JC Davis at short.  Davis made a great play and then doubled off the runner at first to end the top of the sixth.  A single and a stolen base by Grady Emerson followed by an error moved him to third.  Park Prater would drive him in with a sacrifice fly.

The top of the seventh was uneventful for Boerne Champion.  The game ended on a 4-6-3 double play.  Argyle advanced to play Magnolia West on Saturday.
