2A Division I State Championship Game

Neither team is a stranger to Round Rock.  Centerville was here last year.  This is New Home’s 5th trip to Dell Diamond since 2018.  Centerville led off the game with a hit by pitch.  Jake Pineda eventually got to third but couldn’t score.  Centerville’s Gunner Bazar took the mound and promptly retired the first three Leopards.  With two outs in the top of the second, Gunner Bazar walked.  He wouldn’t get past first as Tucker Cotton caught a fly out to right to end the frame.  Bazar continued to pound the zone and sat down the Leopards in order.  At the end of the second, there was still no score.

Six outs, no base runners and therefore no scoring, another inning was in the box.  At the end of the third, it was still as pitcher’s dual and there was still no score.  Three Tigers and no Leopards had reached a base.  Things began to change in the fourth.  The Tigers loaded the bases for Cooper Wilson.  He singled and scored the first two runs of the game.  With two outs, Jake Pineda added to the total with scoring Wyatt Burleson on a blooper over third.  The New Home bats remained quiet.  It was another 3 up / 3 down inning for Bazar.

In the bottom of the 5th, New Home got its first runner on due to an error but could not advance Cooper Brown past first.  Centerville added 3 more runs in the top of the 6th.  Jacob Brooke had a RBI single and Jakey Gray had a two RBI single.  With one out, Tucker Colton drew a walk after a 9 pitch at bat.  He scored on fielders’ choice by Hunter Burrell. The sixth inning ended, 5-1, Centerville.

Centerville added an insurance run on a Jake Pineda single to right scoring Cooper Wilson.  Centerville’s Gunnar Bazar toed the rubber in the 7th.  After walking the leadoff batter, Bazar continued his dominant performance and retired the next 3 batters in order.  Centerville won its first 2A State Division I baseball championship.
