2A Game 1 Groveton v Big Sandy

Game 1 – Groveton Indians v Big Sandy Wildcats

The excitement of Dell Diamond began with the Indians versus the Wildcats and two of the best 2A pitchers in East Texas on the Mound. Groveton would feature Blinn Junior College Commit Glenn Thornton versus Texas A&M Commit Austin Hendrix.
In the first and the second, both pitchers lived up to the hype. Austin Hendrix would record two weak groundballs and a strikeout. Glenn Thornton would reverse it with two strikeouts and a weak groundball. Each team would get its first base runner in the second. Groveton with a leadoff double that wouldn’t score and Big Sandy on a walk. Neither team could capatilize.

Top 3 would change the game. Groveton’s Spencer Pope is hit by a pitch. Then an error on catcher Bryce Holmes scores him from first. Chance Coker hits a sac fly and its quickly 2-0 Groveton. Big Sandy would put two runners on but could not move them across home plate in the bottom half of the 3rd.
Groveton would put the first two runners on in the top of the 4th but Austin Hendrix would mow the ext 3 batters down. The Big Sandy bats would come alive in the bottom of 4. 4 hits would plate 5 runners and Big Sandy would end the 4th up 5-2.

Despite getting runners on first and second, Groveton would not score in the top of the 5th. Big Sandy went down quietly with a strikeout, strikeout, 6-3. Big Sandy would add 2 in the bottom of the 6th. Groveton wasn’t going down without a fight in the 7th as they add 1 in the top of the 7th before Hendrix got a 6-3 to end the game.
