State Championship
Muenster v Dallardsville Big Sandy

With the wind blowing slightly from left field to right field, the visiting Muenster Hornets would wearing orange with white letters. Big Sandy, the home team, would wear their whites with purple sleeves and letters. The 2017 2A State Championship game had begun. Muenster’s Dallas Baptist Comitt Blayne Jones would square off with Alvin JC Committ Bryce Holmes.  The records no longer mattered, today, one team would be crowned the 2A State Champions.

Clay Stevens would lead off the game for Muenster with a double down the third base line. A single by Blayne Jones would score him. But a line drive unassisted double play by Anthony Parrish would end the inning. It got exciting in a hurry as Bryce Holmes answered with a leadoff triple. One out later Austin Hendrix would drive him in with a double. The first would end with the score tied at 1 each.

The top of 2 was uneventful as two quick groundouts would be followed by a walk and a passed ball. But a strikeout would end the top of the 2nd. Big Sandy tried to make it exciting again getting runners on frist and second but could score as Blayne Jones would get Austin Hendrix to fly out to Carson Trubenbach to end the inning.

The fireworks started in the 3rd with 1 out for Muenster. Clay Stevens started it with a single, an E6 put runners on first and second. Blayne Jones would single, Carson Cheaney would single, Parker McGrew would clean off the bases with a triple before a pitching change put Broch Holmes on the mound for Big Sandy and a 4-1 lead for Muenster. Holmes balked to score McGrew. At the end of the 3rd, it was 5-1 Muenster.

Both Blyane Jones and Broch Holmes would settle in and cruise along through the 4th with Big Sandy scoring 1 on 3 hits. But the 5th and 6th were nearly flawless for both pitchers, Headed to the 7th its was 5-2 Muenster. Muenster would add 1 in the top of the 7th. That insurance run wasn’t needed. In the bottom of the 7th, Big Sandy threatened, getting the leadoff runner on and getting Blayne Jones off the mound. Sawyer Sanders would come in to finished the game. He promptly walked Austin Hendrix before striking out Brandon Hendrix and giving up a hit to Broch Holmes to load the bases. But a strikeout of Kiley Cox would end the game and give the Muenster Hornets its first ever baseball State Championship and its second State Title of the year.
