 admin  |    Jun 6th, 2024

In the 2A state championship game, Collinsville’s battery consisted of Logan Jenkins and Peyton Davidson.  Hawley would feature Creed Ernst and Keagan Ables.  Four pitches into the game, Hawley had its first baserunner as Aiden Romo walked.  A sacrifice bunt and a single by Keagan Ables put runners on the corners.  That is all the traffic Jenkins would allow as he quickly struck out the next two batters.  In the bottom of the frame. Collinsville would scratch out a run on a delay steal and a run scored.

Jenkins had a pretty clean top of the 2nd.  He struck out 2 and got Eli Daniel to line out.  The second batter, Drew Siller, reached on a error.  Collinsville scratched out another run in the bottom of the second after Peyton Davidson singles, advances on a hit by pitch and scores from second on a fielder’s choice.  Logan Jenkins was efficient and effective in the top of the 3rd.  Two popouts and a groundout and he was back in the dugout.  In the bottom of the 3rd, Collinsville took advantage of four hits and a hit by pitch to score three more.  Patterson led off with a single, followed singles by Jaxon Jenkins, Cash Morgan and Garrett Trevino.

In the top of the 4th, after a leadoff single Hawley would get Westyn Balch to 3rd but that is as far as he would get.  Two grounds outs and a fly out to right were recorded by Jenkins. Creed Earnst was on the mound for Hawley in the bottom of the fourth. Other than a hit by pitch of Logan Jenkins, Earnst was clean.  Three ground balls for three outs.  Jenkins continued to be efficient in the top of the 5th.  Three ground balls for three outs.  In the bottom of the 5th, Morgan double and Newman singled to start the inning.  Ernst struck out Trevino.  Morgan scored on a ground out to third for out number two.  Gavin Olney came in to pitch for Hawley and struck out the only batter faced.

Hawley got two hits in the top of the 6th but couldn’t get anyone past 2nd.  Collinsville quickly loaded the bases with no outs.  They would score three runs but couldn’t push the 10th one across.  The game would go to the full 7 innings.  Jenkins put the Bearcats down in order to seal the victory.
