2A State Semi-Final Game 2 – New Home v Shiner
admin | Jun 8th, 2023The night cap would bring us teams from the opposite end of the State. Neither are strangers to Dell Diamond. Both teams were here last year. On the mound, the Shiner Comanches will be led by Ryan Peterson with Bryce Nerada behind the plate. New Home will throw Ashton Lucio with Graham Stanford receiving the pitches.
Ryan Peterson secured two quick outs thanks to a nice play be second baseman Carson Schuette and a strikeout. He then walked a batter and gave up a single before getting New Home’s Brody Emert to fly out to left. He would lead off the bottom of the first with a hit by pitch. RBI singles by Carson Schuette and Kaidan Boothe would give Shiner a 2-0 lead. Cale Shows comes through with a 2 out double to clear the bases. After a pitching change, Shows is picked off to end the inning. New Home could not doing anything offensively in the top of the second. Shiner would get runners to second and third but couldn’t score anyone. As we head to the 3rd, the score was still 5-0 Shiner.
Peterson pitching continued to dominate New Home batters . Peterson put them down in order in the top of the third. Bryce Nerada leads off the bottom of the 3rd with a single. He advances to second on a wild pitch. He is joined on the basepaths after Landyn Pohler is hit by a pitch. A hit by pitch, a walk and an error result in 3 more runs scored by Shiner. At the end of the 3rd, it was 8-0 Shiner.
In the top of the 4th, Peterson would record 4 strikeouts. An error on a drop 3rd strike would allow Logan Addison to reach. Addison would steal second but that is a far as he would get. In the bottom of the 4th, Kennan Hailey would be safe at first on a error and advance to 3rd after 2 wild pitches. Carson Schuette walks. Shiner would score 2 more runs on a sacrifice fly and an error. At the end of the 4th it was 11-0 Shiner.
Peterson would take the mound in the 5th. A strikeout, a ground out and Peterson has two quick outs. He would walk one but promptly get a fly out to right to end the game in 5 innings due to run rule.
