2A State Semi Finals Big Sandy v New Deal

 admin  |    Jun 7th, 2018

A 4 pitch walk followed by a single and a miscue in left field would kick off the scoring for Big Sandy in the top of the first.  New Deal Pitcher Brandon Coronado would settle in for 3 strikeouts leaving the bases loaded to ensure no further damage at the start of the game.  In the bottom of the inning, Big Sandy Pitcher Brandon Hendrix would quickly strikeout the opposing pitcher for the first out of the game.  A walk, catcher’s interference a walk, a single by Marino Ramirez and a sac fly by Layton Reed would result in a 2-1 New Deal lead at the end of 1.

The start of the second began much like the first with a 4 pitch walk.  A single and the second intentional walk of the game by New Deal would load the bases for Big Sandy with no outs.  A comebacker off Coronado’s ankle would result in a play at the plate for out #1.  But a big shot up the middle was speared and Coronado doubled up Bryan Duff at first to end threat and the inning.  New Deal advanced a runner to 3rd but couldn’t get him home in the bottom of the inning.

Big Sandy would load the bases again in the 3rd, but couldn’t score.  New Deal went down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the 3rd.  In the top of the 4th, New Deal would get a fly out to center to start the inning but a walk by Duff, a stolen base and New Deal would intentional walk Hendrix.  A wild pitch moved them up and Holmes was intentionally walked.  Another wild pitch would tie the game as Duff scored from 3rd.  With a tie game came a pitching change for New Deal and Layton Reed took the mound.  Another intentional walk (number 6) loaded the bases.  Reed would strikeout Lilley for out #2 and Parrish for out #3.  Big Sandy leaves them loaded…….again.  In the bottom half, New Deal gets Layton Reed to 3rd with 1 out, but can’t score him thanks to a strikeout and an outstanding play at second by Aaron Thompson.

New Deals first 1-2-3 inning would come in the Top of the 5th.  It took a highlight real play in right field by Aaric Mayes, a line drive out to second and one to center field to get them back in the dugout.  In the bottom of the 5th, Big Sandy would record a similar 1-2-3 inning on a groundout to short, a strikeout and a fly out to right field.

Reed gets Duff to strikeout to start the 6th inning.  He gets Hendrix to fly out to left and subsequently would get Holmes to follow that lead.  Headed to the bottom of the 6th, the score was still tied.  Brandon Hendrix would match Reed’s inning.  He allowed one walk before recording 3 outs.  It was all tied up headed to the 7th.   Both Pitchers would shut down the opposition 1-2-3 and we would get some free baseball at the 2A State Semi-Finals.

A leadoff triple in the Top of the 8th by Cody Adams would set the stage for Grady Emmons RBI double to give Big Sandy the go ahead run.  Broch Holmes would strike out the side to seal the 3-2 victory for Dallardsville Big Sandy.
