Shiner versus Garrison

The nightcap would feature the two remaining Top ranked teams as the Shiner Comanches would take on the Garrison Bulldogs.  These teams were also the only returning teams from the 2021 State tournament.  Shiner would put Ryan Patterson on the mound with Bryce Nereda catching.  Garrison would throw Alex Slowikowski with twin brother Andrew behind the plate.

Despite a leadoff single, the Bulldogs couldn’t gain much traction.  A sacrifice bunt by Alex Slowikowski would move Eli Compton to second.  But Shiner Pitcher, Ryan Peterson would strikeout the next two batters.  Shiner would go down in order with a ground out, a flyout to center and a ground out to short.  A leadoff walk and another sac bunt would put a Garrison runner at second.  For the second inning in a row, Peterson would strike out the next two batters to leave the runner stranded.  In the bottom of the second, Shiner would get runners to on first and third but couldn’t score anyone.

Peterson would continue to throw well in the third.  He would strikeout two more.  In the bottom of the 3rd, Cale Shows would start the inning with a single and move to second on a balk.  A single by Ryan Peterson moved him to 3rd.  Freshman Kenen Hailey came up big for the Comanches with a double scoring two.  Patek would then single and both runners would move up on a wild pitch. Nerada would walk to load them up.  Alex Slowikowski would strike out the next two batters to limit the damage.

The fourth would start with a flyout behind 3rd, then a strikeout, a nice play at third by Bryce Filip for out #3.  In the bottom of the fourth, a ground out would start the inning.  A lineout to second baseman Eli Compton for the second out.  Garrison shortstop Tryton Kruse would handle a Peterson ground ball well for the third out.  Peterson would strikeout the side in the top of the 5th.  Alex Slowikowski would come close to matching that performance with 2 strikeouts of his own and a ground out.

In the top of the 6th, Shiner faces 4 batters and gets 3 outs with no one advancing past first.  An error puts Nerada on first.  He advances to second on a fielders choice.  With one out Carson Schuette lines one up the middle.  Centerfielder Regan Todd throws a BB to home but the ball is dropped and another Shiner runs scores.  At the end of the 6th it was 3-0 Shiner.

In the 7th, Brayden Davidson would start the inning off with a walk.  Peterson would then strike out King (#12 on the day) and Regan Todd (#13) and a ground out to short and Shiner would advance to the 2022 State Championship game to face Valley Mills.
