4A GameGrade Team of the Week

Sweeny BulldogsSweeny topped its 4-0 opening week by going 6-0 in week two with tons of quality wins. They swept through the LCISD Tournament, taking down 6A and 5A teams and the defending TAPPS State Champion. Very few 4A teams have started as hot as the Bulldogs.

Runner-Up

Lampasas Badgers – Lampasas has put together a solid 6-1 start to the season. The Badgers opened the week with a win on Monday, then breezed through the Llano Tournament to go 5-0 and outscore opponents 62-14.  A standout win was the 10-3 takedown of Wall, one of the top 3A teams.

Honorable Mention

Salado Eagles – It took a minute for the Eagles to get their season started, but they made it worth the wait. Salado went 4-0-2 this week, earning two wins on Monday and two during the West Tournament. The ties came against then-No. 1 Robinson and No. 25 China Spring—two teams coming off impressive 2017 seasons.

Royal Falcons – The Falcons earned what head coach Abe Arguello called the “best win in the last 20 years for Royal high school” when they took down 6A Pasadena Rayburn in week one, and they rode that momentum into week two. The young Royal squad advanced to the championship game of the Rice ISD Tournament to improve to 4-1 on the season.
