4A State Championship – Argyle Repeats vs Sweeny

 admin  |    Jun 7th, 2019

Argyle withstood all the pressure of the past few months and repeats as the 4A State Champions. They finish an unprecedented 2 year run by going 77-1-1 with two state titles and winning 40 games this year.

Argyle got on the board in the 1st with 3 singles and a walk, but then exploded for 3 in the 4th inning to push their lead to 4-0. Sweeny would fight back with 3 runs in the bottom of the 5th with a big 2-RBI triple from Joe Effenberger. He was the big bat for the Bulldogs with a 2-4 night with a double, triple, 2 RBI, and a run. That’s as close as they would get as Dillon Carter would relieve starting pitcher Sean Bolin in the 6th and Argyle would hang on to win 6-3.

Bolin got the win on the mound with Carter getting the save. The Texas Tech commit would be the MVP of the title game with several good plays in CF and getting things going for the Eagles in the 1st with a hit and by scoring the 1st run of the ballgame.

Congratulations to Coach Griffin and all of the Eagles on an amazing season. Coach Durham at Sweeny and the Bulldogs played Argyle about as tough as anybody two years in a row and will go down as back to back 4A state runner-up. A remarkable achievement.
