4A State Semifinals: Salado 7 Robinson 1
admin | Jun 8th, 2016Salado got timely hits and took advantage of 3 Robinson errors to pick up a big 7-1 win over Robinson in the 2nd game of the 4A State Semifinals. Salado advances to the Championship Game and will play Abilene Wylie tomorrow.
Robinson took an early lead in the 1st inning when Mason Cooper beat out an infield single and Tanner James launched a double down the right field line to score him. But after the scored run in that inning, Salado Pitcher Cody Wolf shut down the Robinson offense. Wolf finished the game giving up only 5 hits and 1 walk while striking out 6.
“I knew that it was not going to be an easy game today,” Wolf stated. “After that first inning, I knew I had to step up on the mound and our hitters knew they had to step up at the plate. I can’t ask for anything more than we did today. I felt like we played great baseball.”
Salado scored 4 runs in the top of the 3rd on only 2 infield singles. Preston Payne started the inning with an infield single but 2 walks and 2 errors allowed 3 Salado runs. Garrett Lightfoot knocked in the other run with another infield single. Salado picked up another run in the 5th on the 3rd error of the game by Robinson and scored two more in the 6th on a 2 RBI single by Drew Dobbins.
