Barbers Hill Big Inning Sends Them to Championship Game

Barbers Hill blew open a tight game in the bottom of the 6th scoring 6 runs on 6 hits and Raithen Malone came in to strike out the side in the top of the 7th to give the Eagles a 12-8 victory over Amarillo High and advance the 5A State Championship Game on Saturday.

Both teams struck early. Amarillo scored 4 runs in the top of the 1st but Barbers Hill answered with 4 runs of their own in the bottom of the inning. In the bottom of the 2nd, Barbers Hill took a 5-4 lead on a Simon Larranga RBI single in the bottom of the second. Amarillo regained the lead in the top of the 3rd on a bases loaded triple by Jake Maynard to put them up 7-5

Each team scored one more run and heading to the bottom of the 6th, Amarillo held an 8-6 lead. That’s when the fireworks began for Barbers Hill. In an inning that included back-to-back triples by Carson Jarrett and Blaine Huntley and bases loaded double by Braden Jacobs, Barbers Hill scored 6 runs on 3 singles, a double and two triples to take a 12-8 lead.

Raithen Malone, who had been playing Second Base the whole game, came in to pitch in the top of the 7th and got three straight strikeouts to secure the win for Barbers Hill.

1B Simon Larranaga was 4-4 with a double, 2 RBIs and 2 Runs. He was named the THSB Player of the Game.

Barbers Hill will play the winner of the Leander Rouse/Hallsville Semifinal on Saturday, June 12 at 12:00 PM
