5A GameGrade Team of the Week

Gregory-Portland Wildcats – The Wildcats (13-2-3/2-0) have pulled off a complete turnaround from last year’s 9-16 performance, eclipsing last year’s win total before zone play even began this season.  G-P is currently riding an 8 game win streak after victories last week over Miller (18-0) and Alice (3-2).  The win over Alice on Friday night came in 11 innings and was won on an RBI infield single.

Runner-Up

Tomball Cougars – The Cougars (10-5-1/3-1) got a big boost this week with a much needed district win over Brenham by a score of 2-1.  After falling behind Brenham in district play in week 1, Tomball needed the win to even to keep Brenham from pulling away.

Honorable Mention

Georgetown Eagles & Elgin Wildcats – Georgetown student trainer, Madelyn Grace Shoales (18), lost her yearlong battle with brain cancer on January 20th. As a show of respect and unity, the Georgetown Eagles wore their gold jerseys last week in honor of Madelyn. To further the cause, Elgin Head Coach, Edward Stringer, also took the opportunity to promote the Madelyn Grace Shoales Foundation and show their support for their district partners at the two teams matchup last week in Elgin. Thank you to both Georgetown and Elgin for shining a light on Madelyn’s life and her cause.
