Clayton Winkles, Senior RHP from Arlington High, was killed early Sunday morning after his vehicle crossed lanes, ran off the road and struck a tree in Arlington. Winkles was driving eastbound about 3 a.m. in the 2000 block of California Lane when he crossed into the westbound lanes for an unknown reason.

Winkles was a returning letterman for the Arlington High Colts baseball team. In 5 starts this year, Winkles was 1-3 with 14 Ks and a 2.47 ERA.

Arlington Head Baseball Coach David Nix made these comments, “Clayton was a popular player, a team leader. He was a great kid who always worked hard. He was very unselfish and cared about his teammates more than anything.”

Several hundred people gathered at the Arlington High Athletic Center Sunday afternoon to remember this popular young man and to console one another.

Funeral services for Winkles are pending. THSB offers condolences to the Winkles family and to the Arlington Colts Baseball Team. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
