Bay Area Christian Gets Second Consecutive TAPPS Divison III State Championship

Adam Atwell held Lake Country Christian scoreless for 5 innings and Bay Area Christian padded their lead just enough in the last two innings to give them a 5-3 win and their second consecutive TAPPS Division III State Championship.

Atwell wasn’t overpowering in his performance this afternoon but he did get 5 ground outs and 3 pop outs to go along with two strikeouts in the first 5 innings, giving up only one hit. He also got some good help from his defense.

Bay Area Christian took a lead in the 3rd on a Jordan Medellin 2-RBI single. They picked up another run in the 6th on a Michael Tweed RBI double, giving them a 3-0 lead.

Lake Country Christian finally broke their scoring drought in the bottom of the 6th. After a hit batter and a single, Adam Lindsey tripled home both runs, cutting the Bay Area Christian lead to 3-2.

Adam AtwellIn the top of the 7th, Bay Area increased their lead by scoring 2 runs on a Michael Tweed 2 RBI single. Down 5-2, Lake Country Christian was down to their last bat. They loaded the bases with one out in the inning with a single, walk and error. TJ Mynyk was able to get one run in on a fielder’s choice ground ball, making the score 5-3. But relief pitcher Medllin was able to get another ground ball to end the threat, giving Bay Area Christian back-to-back State Championships.

Adam Atwell was named the TAPPS State Championship Player of the Game. He pitched 5.1 innings, gave up 2 runs on 1 hit, 1 BB with 2 Ks. He was also 3-3 at the plate with a BB, scoring one run.
