Bay Area Christian Holds Off Northland Christian to Advance to TAPPS Division III Championship Game

Bay Area Christian held off a stubborn Northland Christian team with a 7-5 win, moving them into the TAPPS Division III State Championship game. Bay Area will meet the winner of the Lubbock Trinity Christian/Lake Country Christian game played later this evening.

Bay Area Christian scored the first run of the game in the top of the 1st. Grayson Thallman singled to open the game. He advanced to 2nd on a wild pitch and then stole 3rd. A Lane Escamilla fly ball scored Thallman to give the Broncos a 1-0 lead.

Bay Area picked up two more run in the 3rd. Thallman scored on an error and Jordan Medellin scored on a wild pitch. Bay Area increased their lead to 4-0 in the 4th on Thallman RBI single.

Meanwhile, Reese Brewer was shutting down the Northland Christian batters. Through 5 innings, Brewer had given up only 2 Hits, 1 BB while striking out 8.

In the bottom of the 6th, Northland Christian finally found some offense with a Luke Edmonds walk, a Ben Harrison double and a Stone Walker ground out RBI. They picked up one more run on a bases loaded hit by pitch to cut the lead to 4-2. Jordan Medellin came in to shut down the rally and get the last out.

Bay Area responded with 3 runs in the top of the 7th with 3 hits including an RBI single by Ethan Mann and a 2 RBI single by Lucas Moses.

But Northland Christian was not going to go down easily. Down 7-2, the Cougars loaded the bases with one out. Dylan Guillory cleared the bases with a triple and the Cougars were now only down 7-5. Bay Area pitcher Medellin settled down and struck out the next two batters giving the Broncos the 7-5 victory and a chance to defend their 2021 State Championship tomorrow.

Reese Brewer was named the THSB Player of the Game for his performance on the mound. Brewer pitcher 5.1 innings, giving up 2 runs on 3 hits and 1 walk, striking out 8.
