Dallas Jesuit erupted for 5 runs in the 2nd inning and then held on to beat San Antonio Johnson 6-2 in the 6A State Championship Game in Round Rock.  Winning Pitcher Jacob Palisch was named the Championship Game MVP.

Jesuit pick up a run in the 1st inning when JT Mix walked, went to 3rd on a Pete Hamrick single and scored on a Bryce Bonner single.  But it was the 2nd inning when Jesuit scored 5 runs on just 4 hits, being helped by a BB, a HBP and an error.

Matt Horvath started the scoring with a base hit and then coming home on a wild pitch.  Jared Kengott scored on a bunt single by Mix on a suicide squeeze play.  Mix scored his second run of the day on a bases loaded walk to Bonner.  Bond followed that up with a single scoring Kyle Muller and Hamrick scored on a Mark Ready ground out to give Jesuit a 6-0 lead.

Palisch kept things under control for 6 innings giving up only 3 hits while striking out 5.  He got into trouble in the 7th giving up 5 hits, 2 of which were infield singles, which resulted in 2 runs for Johnson, while only getting one out.

With Johnson getting new life, Head Coach Brian Jones went to his bullpen and brought in J.J. Montenegro.  Montenegro got a foul out and struck out the next batter to end the game giving Jesuit the 6A State Championship.

This was Jesuit’s 6th Baseball State Championship but their first as a member of the UIL.  They won 5 as members of the TCIL, the last one coming in 1999.
