Day 1 6A Regional Quarterfinals

There was an uncharacteristic number of lopsided scores as the first night of the 6A Regional Quarterfinal Playoffs got underway Thursday evening. Four games were decided by the 10-run rule.

In the first game of the evening, Southlake Carroll got home runs from Cole Johnson and Ross Cadena as they beat Allen 16-7. Carroll got 10 runs off Allen starting pitcher Dylan Ditzenberger in 3.1 innings. Ditzenberger had an 0.24 ERA in 28.1 innings in District Play. Johnson had 4 RBIs and Cadena and Wyatt Stapp had 3 RBIs for the Dragons.

Ft. Bend Travis scored 9 runs in the top of 3rd and went on to a 12-0 victory over Katy in 5 innings. Sophomore Sanson Faltine gave up 1 hit in 5 innings and struck out 5. Travis also got a 2-run home run from Jaren Burks and 3 RBIs from leadoff hitter Brandon Pruitt.

Cy Ranch scored 4 runs in the top of the first and went on to beat Ft. Ridge Point 10-0 in 6 innings. Sr Kel Bordwine gave up 1 hit and struck out 10. Hayden Evans had 3 RBIs.

Laredo United’s Omar Cervantes shut out San Antonio Southwest and had 3 RBIs at the plate as United won 10-0 in 5 innings. Pflugerville Hendrickson got a 3-hitter from Colin Wyman and took advantage of 9 walks and 2 errors to beat Austin Anderson 10-0 in 5 innings.

But there were some tight games as well. Clear Springs beat Deer Park 1-0 in a pitcher’s duel as Blake Schultz threw a 1 hit shutout. Deer Park’s Peyton Sherlin gave up only 1 unearned run on 5 hits. Clear Springs scored in the 2nd inning when Drew Minter singled and moved to 3rd on error. Dylan Byrd’s fly ball to right field scored Minter.

In one of the most anticipated games of the day, Rockwall Heath built a 7-0 lead and then held on to beat The Woodlands 7-4. Leadoff hitter Cody Cleveland hit 2 doubles and was 3-3, scoring 3 runs in the game with an RBI. Cole Stillwell was 2-3 with 3 RBIs. Kaden Krowka picked up a complete game win on the mound with 6 Ks.

Rockwall came back after being down 3-0 to beat Oak Ridge 5-3. Brooks Helmer went 3-4 with a home run and 3 RBIs for Rockwall.

Flower Mound picked up Game 1 of the crosstown rivalry game with a 7-3 win over Flower Mound Marcus. Cade Thomas was 4-4 with 2 RBIs for Flower Mound.

San Antonio Reagan scored 5 runs in the top of the 7th to break a 2-2 and beat San Antonio Johnson 7-2 in the matchup of two 26-6A teams. Porter Brown had a double and scored 3 runs for Reagan.

In other games, Round Rock got a complete game shut out from Grant Miller to beat Klein Collins 3-0 and North Shore beat La Porte 3-2.

All of Thursday games were the first game of a best-of-three series. All 16 Regional Quarterfinal games will be in action Friday with the Klein Collins/Round Rock series scheduled for a double header if needed
