Drewery Pitches Hallsville to 4-2 Victory and State Championship Berth

Hallsville pitcher Jeb Drewery held Leander Rouse to 2 runs on just 2 hits and the Bobcats picked up 4 runs in the 4th inning to pull out a 4-2 victory over Leander Rouse in the 5A State Semifinal game.

Rouse jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the 2nd inning on an error and a walk and a 2 out triple by J Sparschu. It was Sparschu’s first of 2 hits for the night but were the only hits allowed by Drewery.

Rouse pitcher Andrew Kithill held the Hallsville lineup at bay in the first 3 innings giving up no hits while striking out 5. But Hallsville was able to get to Kithill in the 4th. Two hit batters and a single loaded the bases for Hallsville. Two walks tied the game at 2-2. 1B Trenton Smith came up and hit a single to drive in 2 runs, giving Hallsville a 4-2 lead. After that, Drewery gave up only one single and shut down Rouse to preserve the lead and give Hallsville the 4-2 win.

Drewery finished the game giving up only 2 hits, 2 unearned runs and 7 Ks. He was named the THSB Player of the Game.

Hallsville will now face Barbers Hill on Saturday at noon for the 5A State Championship.
