Flatonia Repeats as State Champs

Beckville v Flatonia

Flatonia returns to the State Championship for the 2nd time in two years. Obviously, that puts the target on their back. Starting 7 seniors and 2 juniors with a junior in the DH spot, experience would appear to be on their side when compared to Beckville’s 5 sophomores, 1 junior and 3 seniors. The differences end there.

The similarities – both can hit, both can run, both can pitch. Neither team blinks.

Top of 1 was relatively uneventful – 6-3 / double by Andrew Mikulik / 4-3 / F8 and Beckville would come to the plate. Easton Migl would get the start for Flatonia. He threw excellent yesterday versus Bosqueville and brings a 12 batter / 12 out streak to the bottom of the 1st.

Beckville would string 3 hits together to take a 1 run lead after the first frame. Flatonia would answer in top of two with the reminder that they were the returning State Champs. Back to Back triples would capitalize on 2 walks and before anyone knew it, the score at the midpoint of 2 was 3-1 Flatonia. Just so they wouldn’t be know as quitters, Flatonia would add 3 more in the top of the 3rd for a 6-1 score.

Trey Lindsay would take over pitching duties for Beckville in the 4th and shut things down through the 4th, 5th and top 6 with a couple of double play balls in the 4th and the 5th. Easton Migl pitched the 4th and 5th for Flatonia before Nick Flores took over in the bottom of the 6th. A swinging strikeout, a flyout to center field would bring two quick outs. A hit by pitch put Brandt Harris on first. But a 4-3 ended any two out rally.

Lindsay would grab two quick out in the top of 7 before a Brayden Mica single and a Blaine Besetzny triple would add an insurance run.  Beckville would not go down quietly.  They loaded the bases but couldn’t get a run across.  Nick Flores would end the game on a 1-3 comebacker.
