Georgetown advances to the 5A State Championship game

The Thursday nightcap would be the 5A State Semi Final game featuring Frisco Wakeland versus Georgetown.  The winner would get to play Friendswood on Saturday at 12.  The Frisco battery would consist of RHP Holden Yaksick (9-2) and Mason Priebe behind the plate.  The Georgetown hurler would be RHP Nicholas Silva (4-1).

Jackson Dillingham would walk to leadoff the game.  A sacrifice bunt by Connor Cassano would move him to second.  A groundout to the shortstop Eli Hellmann and a strikeout ends the top of the first.  Georgetown would not get a runner on base in the bottom of the first.  Holden Yaksick would get a ground ball and two fly balls to centerfield that the defense easily handled.

Wakeland would get the scoring started in the second.  Dillon Sneed would walk to lead off the inning.  A double by Mason Priebe would bring him home.  With two outs, Brendan Freeman would also double to score Priebe.  Jackson Dillingham would follow with a single and score Freeman.  Andon Petty bobbled the ball in center and heads up base running by Dillingham moved up to second.  Georgetown pitcher Nicholas Silva would get his second strikeout of the day to end the inning.  In the bottom of the second with one out, Logan Smith would single to right.  Logan Smith would walk.  The pitcher would balk.  There were quickly runners on second and third with 1 out.  A pop out behind first and a fly out to right would end the threat.

Wakeland was quite in the top of the 3rd.  Georgetown – not so much.  Two singles, a double and a sacrifice fly would plate two runs with just one out.  The inning started with singles by Andon Petty, Zachary Mazoch and a double with an RBI by EJ Davis.  Landon Hyle would hit a sac fly to score Mazoch.  With 2 outs, Logan Smith drove a ball to right and score Davis easily from second.  The inning would end with the score tied at 3 after a pop out to second.

Mason Priebe would quickly get to third in the top of the 4th.  He walked then was moved over thanks to a wild pitch and a sac bunt.  He would score on another wild pitch to give Wakeland the lead.  With 2 outs, Jackson Dillingham would get to first on a error.  But Connor Cassano would strike out to end the top of the 4th.  Hellman would walk then advance to second on a fielders choice to start of the bottom of the 4th.  With 2 outs, Zachary Mazoch would hammer a ball to the wall scoring Hellman from second.  He would be thrown out trying to advance to 3rd to end the inning.

Wakeland’s Carson Priebe would end up on second due to a misplayed ball in centerfield and no one covering second base.  He would advance to third on a single by Addison Brown.  Brown would attempt to advance to second when right fielder Land Hyle threw home.  Catcher Zachary Mazoch threw a BB to second for the out.  Wakeland’s half of the 5th would end on a strikeout.  Georgetown Pitcher Wade Denton’s second of the day.

In the bottom of the 5th, EJ Davis leads off with a triple. Landon Hyle singles to drive him in and give Georgetown the lead.  That would be all the offense for that inning.  Wakeland would go quietly in the top of 6 on 2 strikeouts and a pop out to short.  With one out in the bottom of the 6th, Eli Hellmann would walk, steal second and advance to third on a wild pitch.  A lazy ground ball to the pitcher and a ground out to first would leave him stranded.

Wakeland would be down to its final 3 outs.  A line out to second, a fly out to center, and a ground out to second would end the ballgame.  Georgetown would advance to the 2022 5A State Championship game.
